Support Dog Adoption and Rescue. Why go to a dog breeder or pet store to buy a dog when you can adopt?

Cities, Towns, and/or Counties We Serve:

Colorado Springs, Fountain, Security, Woodland Park, Monument, Manitou Springs, but we don't hesitate to go "out of our way" to find that perfect home for our Dogs!

About Our Rescue Group:

Mission Statement: Lucky Dog Rescue is dedicated to saving unwanted dogs and finding them forever homes. Passionate about the prevention of cruelty to animals, we want to be a leader within the Colorado Springs community and educate the public on the importance of spaying and neutering their pets, while advocating for animals that have no voice, by offering training and other resources as alternatives to re-homing.

Come Meet our Pets:

Adoption Fairs are generally on Saturdays from 12 noon - 3pm. We may be be at Lucky Dog Central or an alternate place. Please see our website or facebook page for a schedule.

Many of our dogs are in foster homes, so visits during the week would have to be by appointment. Please email or call us if you are interested in one of our Dogs and a volunteer will get back to you generally within 24hours to set up an appointment with you to meet the dog!

Our Adoption Process:

You need to fill out an adoption application. Filling out an application does not obligate you to anything, however, we do consider the order of applications received for a certain pet, in combination with the home set up. But that also means that being the first one to put in an application does not automatically guarantee you a certain dog. Lucky Dog Rescue reserves the right to deny an adoption to any person who has been convicted of an inhumane act, has returned a dog to us, or cannot provide the type of environment suitable for a dog or type of dog they wish to adopt. Link for the application, please email or fax back to us

We may require a home check before the adoption will be final plus a follow up visit after the adoption. Training is not generally required, but may be mandatory for certain dogs. It IS offered for free at Lucky Dog for all our adopters!

Our adoption fee is generally $140 and includes the dog being spayed/neutered, up to date on shots and microchipped. There is a separate $10.99 fee for the microchip registration. We work with Home Again and they give us a free chip for every chip registered - so you are continuing to help us!

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life! What is the difference between adopting a dog or puppy versus getting dogs for sale or puppies for sale from a dog breeder? When someone is breeding puppies, they are creating new dogs who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog or puppy and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale from a puppy breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs who must find homes. So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog or adopt a puppy at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.

American Akitas are actually more heavily built and blocky than the oriental variety and that dog is badly lacking face structure and bone, those wrists look down right tiny and so do the paws, eye shape is also incorrect and a red nose is a MAJOR fault in a puppy. Heres a well bred 12 week old American Akita.

I live in Massachusetts. I need to know some akita breeders near me. Preferably in my state or ones near me like New Hampshire. Thank you for whoever helps me.

    • Your state but a word of advise, most decent Akita breeders wont sell to people without Akita experience so hopefully you've owned them before.

  • Avatar Cj At what age is a puppy no longer considered a puppy, and is now a dog?

Also what age is a dog fully grown? If the breed matters I'm refering to an Akita

    • They stop 'getting taller' at 12 or 18 months of age. (Normally depending on the breed) then start to 'fill out'. (By this, I mean that they'll 'bulk up', that.s the best way I can explain it.)
