Akita Shepherd

Akita / German Shepherd Hybrid Dogs

The Akita Shepherd is not a purebred dog. It is a cross between the Akita and the German Shepherd. The best way to determine the temperament of a mixed breed is to look up all breeds in the cross and know you can get any combination of any of the characteristics found in either breed.

I got to go visist Napa's foster puppies today, what a treat! I would definately say that there was more than one father of this litter, so much variety in size, coat, color, shape, etc. Good thing I can't have one, I couldn't choose! I think my fave was the little black shortcoat female, she looked velveteen! Her and the big chocolate tri male "Raymond" who is also Napa's fave. I also got to meet mom. She looks 100% pitty to me, what a doll! Such a great temperament too. I took a LOT of pics, so here is the first half:
Puppy #1 (looked very Akita-ish, very dense coat, great smut

My guy is an Akita/GSD but all Akita

In temperament. Even if you adopt a puppy, it won't ensure that your Akita will do well with your other resident animals.
No matter what you do, they generally will NOT do well with same sex dogs. You also have to be careful about human aggression too. Socializing at a young age is extremely important, but you will still need to be careful about "introducing" new people to the dog.
They are very aloof and typically not at all snuggly. Not a dog that should be left outside alone as they need lots of human interaction or are very likely to become aggressive.

  • Avatar Chelsea Where can I find Akita x German Shepherd puppy?
Aug 03, 2010 by Chelsea | Posted in Dogs

I am looking for an Akita x German Shepherd puppy (preferably pick of the litter) from London or other areas close by.
I am an experienced dog owner therefore DO NOT leave comments of your unwanted opinions (e.g. how this is irresponsible)
I won't even bother to glance at such 'answers', so in other words do not waste your time.

    • Perhaps if you were to explain why you wanted that particular cross, we'd be better able to help you. I'm not aware of any reason why anybody would deliberately cross those two breeds, so you're probably reduced to looking around for accidental matings.

My pup used to get on great with all other dogs until he was 7 months old and a big labrador attacked him, since then everytime he sees another dog he tries to attack them! He even sees people as a threat which is hard t … them. My puppy was the same up until he was attacked so i know this is what has caused it.

Being with the other 2 dogs also doesnt help because they both join in which makes him worse and harder to control

    • You're going to need a behaviourist i think. also, it may not just be the laborador attack, akitas are a feisty and sometimes aggressive breed. maybe you can try to introduce him to other dogs with his two friends around so he feels more relaxed and safe. and follow the advice to keep them all on leashes and with lots of space, also usually on a neutral territory is best.

I have been looking everywhere for some info on an Akita Shepherd's personality, but since it's a mix all the articles say you can't predict it. Don't answer if you're going to say that, I want to know if it's stubborn, smart, good with kids, has a tendency to be aggressive, whatever.

    • Any site that says you can predicat a temperment of a mix bred is incorrect.
