The Seven Shepherd-Akita Pups

Support Dog Adoption and Rescue. Why go to a dog breeder or pet store to buy a dog when you can adopt?

Cities, Towns, and/or Counties We Serve:

Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky (north west), Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, Wisconsin, St. Louis MO

About Our Rescue Group:

In 1976, the Akita Rescue Society of America was founded by a small group of concerned Akita owners. In the early years, only a few Akitas required the services provided by ARSA, but as the breed grew in popularity, so has the number of Akitas arriving in rescue kennels and foster homes. Midwest Akita Rescue Society (MARS) is a member of Akita Owners Rescue Foundation, Inc. (AORF) which is a national rescue organization with various Akita Rescue groups across the United States. The purpose of MARS is to rescue, medically treat, rehabilitate and re-home abandoned, relinquished or otherwise homeless Akita dogs.

Our Adoption Process:

Would you like adopt a dog from MARS? You can call us and talk it over, read our information package, then fill out an adoption application form. Our representatives will check out your references, getting as much information as possible in order to decide if you will provide an environment compatible with any dog we may have waiting for a new home. One or two MARS volunteers will visit you in your home in order to ask specific questions about what you want in a dog and to talk about the dogs we have available. Any potential problems we see at that time will be fully discussed and resolved.

When you have been approved for adoption, you will be introduced to the Akitas. Each will have been spayed or neutered, and will be up-to-date on all vaccinations, heartworm negative, AVID microchipped and receiving monthly preventative medication, and in general good health. The Akita will have been evaluated on its response to male and female adults, children, cats, other Akita, small dogs and various other stimuli. As a result, there is a $300.00 required donation when you adopt.

  • Avatar Tristan W What would you say is the average price of an Akita Inu?

I was thinking about buying one I was just wondering what their rarity is and the average cost.

    • Visit and look up the breed in your area and on the left side you can choose an age if you want. It will cost a donation of around $200 to the shelter and potientally save a dog's life. :)
