Japanese Akita has no reviews

The Akita is a dog breed originating in Japan and is one of seven breeds designated as a national monument of Japan . A small Akita statue signifies health, happiness and long life. These statues are usually given to families of Japan when a child is born. If a person is ill, friends will send a small statue of an Akita to express wishes for a quick recovery.

There was a time in Japan ’s history when Akita ownership was restricted to the Imperial family and the ruling aristocracy. The dog was bred as a versatile hunting dog in the rugged mountains of Northern Japan .

Helen Keller is credited for bringing the first Akita into the United States .

I knew I had to go with a mix

Close to Hike's cause of his very specific personality and play style. It couldn't have gone better!
And, eee! I was wondering if you'd be going back to two any time soon. Socsy must miss having a furry friend around. I LOVE dogs with a dipped-color head haha. I saw an Akita like that once, all white with a totally solid brown noggin, and it was the cutest thing. She looks like a big girl! Wish there was some body shots but I'm sure you'll provide plenty if she's the one :D

We adopted Bruin

At a shelter when he was 8 weeks old. They had him listed as a terrier/blue heeler mix. His littermates were all white with some fawn coloring on their ears.
With that said, I don't think he's an akita. I've been calling him the cattledog trifecta consisting probably of border collie, blue heeler, and australian cattledog.
His litter did come from the Navajo reservation and most of the dogs that come from there are some sort of cattledog mixes.
Anyways- I wish we knew for sure since he is so different looking and carries quite the personality

My family is lookinf into buying a akita dog but we want a red one with a white face mask... how rare are they? am i likely to find one in california?

    • Most red American Akitas will have the black mask. If you want the red face/white mask combo you will have to get a Japanese Akita. In the US (and Canada, I believe), there is only 1 akita breed. Everywhere else, there i … There aren't too many Japanese Akita breeders in the US...believe me, I have been looking. Some breeders will cross the two. Try Sunrock Akitas or Hanko Akitas. Those are two that I have found that have Japanese Akitas.
